Weekly Schedule

From Fixed Design to Variable Code

Week 1: Hello Class!

This week, we’ll get introduced to the course and take a look at what we’ll be aiming to achieve.

Week 2: Variable, Random, System

This week, we’ll use variables and controlled randomness to turn a single composition into a flexible visual system.

Week 3: Random, Conditionals and Transformation

This week, we’ll turn variation into a rule-based system by combining randomness, conditionals, and transformations.

Week 4: Loops & Custom Functions

How can we use loops and custom functions to create more efficient and flexible code?

Week 5: Show & Tell

This week, we’re presenting our first project and reflecting on how code can be used as a material for design.

Data As Contested Material

Week 6: Data & Mapping Data

What is data? How can we setup a structure in code to visualize our data?

Week 7: Data Sculpture

How can we use APIs to fetch data and create tangible data sculptures?

Week 8: Object Oriented

How can we use APIs to fetch data and construct objects for better code organization?

Week 9: Critical Data Viz

How can a data sculpture communicate a position, and how do we make it legible to an audience?

Week 10: Show & Tell

This week, we’re presenting our second project and reflecting on how data can become a material for design.

Cybernetics of Live Input

Week 11: Guest Workshop with Avneesh Sarwate ✨

How can live input shape what we see, hear, and do in a space?
